I’m always on the search for outdoor spaces that feel like they belong in a love story or a photograph to be displayed in an art gallery. It’s one of the unspoken joys of being an outdoor engagement photographer, because you can’t help but pull over randomly while driving to document this hidden gem of a park in the city or a local neighborhood.  Nonso and Sakira’s engagement session at the breathtaking Antique Rose Emporium was nothing short of a chapter out of a love story: elegant, whimsical, and deeply intimate. From the very beginning, this session felt like a fairytale with cowboy flair.

Beautiful Brenham, Texas

About an hour and a half, on a good day (lol), you can drive to one of Houston’s neighboring cities and discover what I call true country vibes in a city. Brenham is a close stop for the Annual Bluebonnet festival, and its downtown center host a plethora of local shops, bars, and historical buildings to explore. My favorite location for photos is the Antique Rose Emporium.

The venue is a dream for any couple desiring a garden wedding or gardening enthusiast. The Acreage is covered in blooming roses, rustic cottages, a chapel, and open fields with little wildflowers. The area is perfect for slow walks and sweet conversations. I first discovered this venue during a mini road trip to see the Texas Bluebonnets, and I knew instantly it would be perfect for a couple who wanted romance wrapped in nature. When we arrived, Nonso and Sakira were ready to explore.

whimsical gardens & floral attire

We began the session with their garden-inspired looks. Nonso wore a cream suit and a floral collared shirt underneath. Sakira wore a strapless cream dress adorned with floral appliqué that moved softly with every step. They intentionally chose outfits that mirrored the whimsical garden setting, and it paid off beautifully. Against climbing roses and elegant cottage backdrops, they were their own type of flowers.

As an engagement photographer, I always encourage couples to think about how their wardrobe complements the environment. Soft tones and cohesive styling elevate the entire gallery. But beyond what they wore, what stood out most was how they interacted with each other.

They met in their hometown of New York City; two ambitious young professionals with a shared heart for service. That foundation shows in how they love each other. There’s steadiness. There’s admiration. There’s friendship and support underneath it all. We captured quiet embraces under covered porches and playful spins along the garden paths. The sunset created the most beautiful glow, warm light reflecting off petals, leaves, and stone.

A nod to their houston love story

As the sun was setting they changed into their second look, and I absolutely loved the personality shift. Inspired by their love for baseball (specifically the Houston Astros), they wore matching baseball tees styled with cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. It was the perfect blend of Texas charm and playful authenticity. This is why I love being an engagement photographer. Your engagement session doesn’t have to fit into one aesthetic box. It can be romantic and editorial. Playful and personal. Elegant and relaxed. Nonso and Sakira are an adventurous duo, and this outfit change felt like such an honest representation of what they love outside of wedding planning.

The Heart Behind The Photos

It meant the world to me when the couple later shared why they chose me to photograph their engagement. They were intentionally searching for vendors who felt aligned with their vision and who created a calm experience. They also connected with my colorful, personable style.

Their testimonial still makes me smile:

“When I say 10/10 stars I mean it!!! Michele is so professional… It was pouring the day of our session but she helped us feel so confident we could still get great photos for our save the dates. They turned out great!!! Highly recommend her!”

As an outdoor engagement photographer, my job isn’t just to take beautiful photos. It’s to guide you through unpredictable moments. To calm nerves. To help you feel confident and seen.
