As a Houston maternity photographer and family photographer, there is nothing sweeter than being invited back to document a growing family. When the Pervaiz family reached out for their second maternity session, my heart immediately said yes.
I photographed their first pregnancy at the Historic Heights Fire Station, and this time, we met in Humble, Texas at the breathtaking Mercer Botanic Gardens. From the moment we began planning, I knew this session would be beautiful and full of loving memories. Not only was it the celebration of their second pregnancy but also the first professional photos with their oldest.
Sunset glow at mercer botanic gardens
Mercer Botanic Gardens is one of my favorite recommendations for expectant parents, engaged couples, and small wedding clients because it offers so much variety in one location. Tailored English-inspired gardens. Cobblestone paths lined with butterfly-friendly blooms. Romantic rose bushes. Waterfront features that still the mind. For a young, growing family like the Pervaiz family it was the perfect backdrop to roam, play, and relax after a day of work.
Mom wore a flowing baby blue maternity dress with a delicate dot pattern that caught the glow of the sunlight. Dad wore a classic suit with a blue and green floral-patterned tie. Big brother matched mom in a blue dress shirt with khaki overalls. The blue symbolizing their excitement for baby brother-to-be.
Documenting Motherhood in Motion
We spent about an hour simply walking the gardens, documenting the beauty of pregnancy and the anticipation of welcoming another little boy into their lives. As a maternity photographer, I always guide my families to get close during the session. We celebrate mom and document her beauty in motherhood, but we also cherish the community excited to support her.
One of my favorite moments of the entire session was when big brother kissed mom’s belly. It took a little bit of guidance but turned into the perfect big kiss that held so much innocence and curiosity for the baby brother he hasn’t even met yet. Another standout moment was watching the parents interact with their son. They both work demanding careers in medicine, and this session felt like more than just portraits. It felt like permission to slow down, explore, and connect.
A mother's love
When we captured photos of mom by herself, I could not stop with the compliments. The glow of the sunset finally hit that sweet spot where the light isn't too bright and the skin glows. Her baby blue maternity dress complimented her beautifully and shaped her baby bump perfectly. She looked confident and ready for her next baby. She definitely had that pregnancy glow.
Photographing them through multiple milestones feels like witnessing the continuation of something meaningful. They told me they chose to work with me again because of my calm nature and the way I document their story. And truly, that is the highest compliment. Every time a family invites me back, it reminds me why I love being a maternity photographer in Houston. These seasons pass so quickly. Pregnancies come and go. Babies grow into big siblings.
But photographs hold it all still.
