There is something especially sweet about a wedding in the springtime. The air feels softer, the sunlight lingers a little longer, and every moment seems to slow down just enough for people to truly be present with one another. Christina and Austin’s wedding day in Pasadena, TX reminded me of all the reasons I adore small weddings so much. They may be smaller in size, but they are never small in love.
The beauty of Christina and Austin’s wedding is that it almost did not happen this way at all.
A love story rooted in simplicity
Life had thrown many unexpected changes their way, and planning a large wedding quickly began to feel overwhelming. Instead of waiting for the “perfect” timing, they decided to choose each other anyway. The couple first eloped privately in Galveston, then planned an intimate wedding celebration closer to home in Pasadena so they could gather with the people who mattered most.
Honestly, those kinds of weddings always stay with me the longest. There is something deeply meaningful about couples who realize that marriage is not about how grand the day looks, but about the commitment they are making in the middle of real life.
La Panga Restaurant | Small Wedding Venue in Pasadena
Their wedding took place at La Panga Restaurant in Pasadena, tucked behind a private fenced patio beneath the most beautiful large tree that naturally became the centerpiece of the evening. The weather that Friday evening in March could not have been more perfect. The sky was clear, sunny, and breezy without the usual heavy Texas heat. Guests arrived in colorful spring outfits that felt perfectly suited for the relaxed backyard wedding atmosphere the couple envisioned.
The couple chose La Panga because it felt close to home in every sense of the word. Family connections to the restaurant owners made the space feel even more personal, and they loved how simple and welcoming the patio felt for a micro wedding celebration. And of course, the food matched their love for traditional Mexican food. Between carnitas tacos, fried fish, rice and beans, and drinks shared around the patio tables, the entire evening felt more like a joyful family gathering than a formal production. Those are often my favorite kinds of weddings to photograph.
Sailor Moon Inspired Wedding
One of my favorite details from this micro wedding was how beautifully Christina and Austin blended their personalities into the design of the day. The wedding aesthetic was inspired by two things they both love dearly: Sailor Moon and Spider-Man. At first, you might think those themes would clash, but somehow it worked perfectly. The bride’s love for whimsical pinks and pastels mixed effortlessly with the groom’s bold black and red comic-inspired style.
The bridesmaids wore colors inspired by the Sailor Moon characters — soft pink, blue, green, and red dresses that brought such a playful energy to the ceremony space. Meanwhile, the groom and groomsmen kept things timeless in classic black suits and ties.
Christina looked absolutely stunning in her off-the-shoulder gown with flowing sleeves that draped like wings behind her train whenever she moved. It felt soft, romantic, and almost ethereal in the evening sunlight.
Heartfelt WEdding vows at sunset
Although the couple had already legally married days earlier in the Galveston Courthouse, they still wanted to exchange vows in front of their closest family and friends during the reception. Their wedding vows became one of the most emotional parts of the entire evening for me.
You could feel how much love and support existed between them while Christina read her vows. There was this quiet understanding between the two of them that felt so genuine and grounding. It was not performative or overly polished. It was simply honest love.
The couple also reserved a few seats near the front row for loved ones who had passed away. Small touches like that always remind me how weddings are not only about beginnings, but also about honoring the people and memories that helped shape us along the way.
Because the wedding came together rather quickly, much of the day was beautifully DIY. One detail I especially loved was the dessert and cake setup. The restaurant had rolling carts around the patio that the couple transformed into a whimsical cake station decorated with sparkly streamers, colorful fans, and playful piñatas. Everything about the evening felt joyful, relaxed, and full of personality.

Because the wedding came together in a beautifully spontaneous and DIY way, we spent time during our consultation discussing timelines, important traditions, and the moments they wanted most documented. Together, we created a photo shot list and a flexible flow for the day that prioritized what mattered most to them. On the wedding day, I guided the bridal party into the best positions for ceremony photos, helped direct the couple naturally during their private portraits, and supported the overall flow of events while still keeping the atmosphere relaxed and go-with-the-flow.
